Sclerotherapy in Atlanta, GA
Spider veins are small, thin veins that show up on your face, legs, or thighs and are close to the surface. They often create red, blue, or purple web-like patterns, and while not usually medically harmful, they can become a cosmetic concern and a source of embarrassment.
Varicose veins are larger and often bulge or look swollen or twisted and normally appear on the legs, ankles, calves, or feet. Besides their undesirable appearance, they can also cause aching, throbbing and a feeling of uncomfortable heaviness. These veins can eventually lead to more serious medical issues and can be very noticeable when wearing clothing such as shorts, skirts, or dresses.
Many people feel embarrassed by the way their face or legs look due to these veins, but fortunately, sclerotherapy treatments can reduce or eliminate their appearance, leaving behind smoother, clearer-looking skin and alleviating discomfort and anxiety.

Schedule A ConsultationWhat Is Sclerotherapy?
Visible veins can appear on your legs or face due to aging, prolonged standing or sitting, or simply because of genetics. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that is safe and effective in eliminating or reducing the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins. It is performed as an outpatient procedure (usually in the doctor’s office), and patients are free to return home the same day.
Why Would Someone Choose
Sclerotherapy Treatments?
Most individuals choose sclerotherapy to remove ugly spider veins or varicose veins that develop on their face, glegs, thighs, or hands. These veins can cause physical discomfort such as aching and swelling as well as emotional discomfort, affecting their self-confidence about the way they look. Sclerotherapy is a quick, non-invasive way to get rid of these veins and restore a smoother, more youthful look to the treated areas.

Procedure Steps
This medical procedure is normally done right in the doctor’s office and involves injecting a solution into the veins, causing them to collapse and fade away. The procedure will enhance the appearance of the area treated as well as reduce any symptoms they may be causing. The steps of sclerotherapy usually include:
You will have a consultation with Dr. Angelina, where she will evaluate your areas of concern and determine if sclerotherapy therapy will provide the results you are looking for.
The area to be treated will be sterilized, and you will be instructed to lie down, sometimes with your legs elevated depending on the location of the vein(s) targeted.
A tiny needle is used to administer the sclerotherapy injection into the targeted vein(s), which causes the lining of the veins to stick together so they eventually collapse and makes them less visible on the surface of the skin. You may feel a slight pressure as the solution enters the vein, but it is not described as painful. Treatment takes 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the location and size of the vein.
In many cases, the veins that are treated will need to be compressed for a few days or weeks to help them collapse and remain closed. This involves the patient wearing some type of compression stocking that will be recommended by Dr. Angelina.
Patients can return home the same day and will be given sclerotherapy aftercare instructions outlining how they should take care of their treated veins for the next few days or weeks. Often they need to avoid hot baths, saunas, lifting weights, sun exposure, etc.
Recovery
The recovery after sclerotherapy treatments is usually quick and painless, and most patients can return to their regular routine. It is normal to have some mild bruising in the areas that were treated, but this will fade on its own. Walking is encouraged to ensure that blood is circulating and no clots are forming. Dr. Angelina will give you instructions based on your exact procedure, which will include activities to avoid and how long you need to wear your compression garments. Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and standing for long periods of time should be avoided for the first week.

Sclerotherapy FAQs
Is Sclerotherapy Painful?
Most individuals tolerate the procedure fairly well, but it will depend on the number of veins treated, where they are located, their size, and the individual’s threshold for pain. Most patients feel a slight prick and some mild stinging when the solution is injected, but it typically goes away very quickly.
Will I Need More Than One Sclerotherapy Treatment?
Many veins can be treated in just one session, but if you have numerous or large veins, it may take anywhere between 1 and 3 sessions to reach the results you are looking for.
How Long After My Sclerotherapy Will I See Results?
Usually, a significant difference in the appearance of the vein can be seen within a few weeks, but it can sometimes take up to a few months to see the final results of the treatments depending on the area treated.
Are The Results Of Sclerotherapy Permanent?
Yes, once the vein has collapsed, it will not come back, but new spider veins or varicose veins can develop over time, and another treatment may be needed to eliminate them.
