A surgery for fuller, more shapely breasts
Breast augmentation is a procedure patients undergo for many reasons. Besides increasing the size of the breasts through the placement of implants, this procedure can restore breast volume after weight loss or pregnancy. Breast augmentation surgery can also be performed to improve symmetry and for a more rounded shape. Breast implants may also be used for reconstructive purposes after a mastectomy or injury. Patients can also choose fat transfer breast augmentation, where fat from another part of the body is used to improve breast volume.
Ideal candidates for breast augmentation surgery are people who are physically healthy and aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding. Breasts also must be fully developed. Typical patients include those who are dissatisfied with the shape and volume of their breasts because of their failure to develop properly, after pregnancy or weight loss or aging.
Before surgery, patients meet with Dr. Angelina to discuss the procedure, expectations and questions. Implant types, sizes, shapes, textures and placements will be reviewed so patients are completely informed. At this time, medical history will be reviewed as well.
Performed under general anesthesiology, breast augmentation takes 30 to 45 minutes per breast. During that time, Dr. Angelina will create an incision and place the implant, and depending on the type chosen, fill the implant to the desired level.
After surgery, breasts will be wrapped in gauze or in a surgical bra. Mild pain, swelling, bruising and tenderness could be experienced. Patients should take care to follow any postoperative restrictions and advice including when they can return to work or continue usual activities.
